Gemini Robotics On-Device
Google DeepMind Unveils AI Model
Google DeepMind has introduced a powerful new artificial intelligence model called Gemini Robotics On-Device.
This advanced system is specially designed for robots and works directly on a device without needing a constant internet connection.
It blends voice, language and action in real-time to help robots carry out complex tasks in daily environments.
Where fast response and independence from the cloud are important.

What makes it unique?
This model is designed to help two-arm robots perform activities that require careful handling and quick reactions. It works completely offline unlike many AI systems that rely on cloud computing.
This makes it ideal for situations where internet access is limited or where fast response times are critical.
Carolina Parada, Senior Director and Head of Robotics at Google DeepMind has shared the news in a blog post. Further She explained that such AI models are designed for low-latency environments where even a slight delay can impact performance.
Since it operates locally so tasks can be performed without waiting for cloud-based data processing.
Current availability
At this time, only a select group of developers, known as Trusted Testers, have access to Gemini Robotics on-device.
They can explore the system using Google’s Gemini Robotics SDK and the MuJoCo physics simulator which is used to test the robot’s movements and performance in a virtual environment

Features and capabilities
Although Google hasn’t revealed detailed technical details, it has only highlighted some important features, including
- Low-resource operation: Works with minimal computing power.
- Fast learning: Can learn new tasks from just 50 to 100 examples.
- Natural language understanding: Understands spoken or written commands.
- Advanced task handling: Capable of tasks like folding clothes, unzipping bags and handling unknown items.
- High precision: Performs delicate tasks such as those in factory assembly lines.
Real world testing and adaptability
During internal tests, this model proved that it can understand complex commands and perform various tasks. Some of these are as follows as discussed above
- Folding different types of clothes
- Unzipping and managing bags
- Handling new and unfamiliar objects
- Precision based industrial tasks
Originally the model was trained using the ALOHA robotic system. But it has since been adapted to work with other robots including :
- Franka Emika’s FR3 : A well known bi-arm robot
- Apptronik’s Apollo : A humanoid robot built for real world environments
If we talk about the switching between different robotic platforms or facing completely new tasks – The AI maintained consistent performance and handled multi step instructions smoothly and adjusted to tasks it had not seen before.
The future of Robotics
This release is a big step forward in the field of robotics. Such Robots using Gemini robotics on-device can work in different areas like hospitals, factories, homes and other places where fast response and independence from the cloud are important.
These robots can become helpful partners in everyday activities and reduce human effort in repetitive or dangerous tasks.
Looking ahead
Currently full public access is not available yet. However, this innovation points toward a future where robots become more capable, responsive and accessible.
As AI continues to evolve, tools like Gemini Robotics On-Device will make it easier for developers and companies to build smart machines that truly understand and act in the real world smartly.
