It is recognized as a teaching and residential university affiliated with 556 colleges and 17 institutes in Lucknow and surrounding areas providing significantly to local academic development across five districts- Lucknow, Raebareli, Hardoi, Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri.

Lucknow university is expanding by establishing a third campus in Sitapur, focusing on vocational and skill-based courses. Offering a wide array of undergraduate, postgraduate and online programs.
