Udaipur Files Movie Faces Ban

Delhi High Court stops release of Udaipur Files
On 10th-July-2025 just one day before its release the Delhi High Court ordered a suspension of the movie Udaipur Files.
This happened after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by Maulana Arshad Madani the Principal of Darul Uloom Deoband.
The PIL claimed that the film contained scenes and dialogues that might disturb peace between communities. There were concerns that the film could create tension and possibly lead to unrest.
Jashoda Teli’s heartfelt appeal
In her handwritten letter to Prime Minister Modi, Jashoda Teli expressed deep grief and disappointment. She pointed out that the film only tells the truth of her husband’s murder and does not contain any false or harmful things told by Maulana Arshad Madani.
She Said – “The Muslim organisations and their lawyers have blocked the release of this film in court. But I have seen the film myself. it only tells the story of my husband’s murder. There is nothing wrong or objectionable in it.
Please help in releasing the truth.“
She further wrote that her children believe the final decision now rests with the central government. According to her those who took her husband’s life are now trying to hide the truth from the world.
She also asked for a personal meeting with PM Modi, mentioning that she wants to visit Delhi with her children to share her pain and seek justice.
What was the tragic incident that happened in Udaipur?
On 28th-June-2022 Kanhaiya Lal was killed inside his tailoring shop in Udaipur. Two attackers Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad had come pretending to be customers and suddenly they attacked him with sharp weapons and recorded the horrific act.
The motive behind the killing was linked to a social media post made by Kanhaiya Lal in support of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. She had been earlier suspended from the party after controversial remarks about the Prophet.
Legal developments and Court decision
The court led by Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Anish Dayal asked the petitioner to approach the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the central government. The CBFC had already cleared the movie earlier but the final decision will now depend on the authorities in New Delhi.

The victim’s family and many supporters are standing firm. They believe the movie tells the real story of a brutal act that shocked the nation. According to them hiding the truth will not bring peace. Instead it is important for the public to see what really happened.
