BITS Pilani to Launch India’s First AI Campus
A well known university ‘Birla Institute of Technology and Science‘ (BITS) Pilani in Rajasthan is building India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Plus Campus in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh.
This major educational step is backed by a massive investment of Rs 1,000 crore over the next five years.

AI Plus Campus | Major announcement
Chancellor of BITS Pilani and Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla has shared this news recently.
The new campus will be designed as a digital first institution, focused mainly on artificial intelligence and related technologies. Highlights are as follows-
- The project will cover 70 acres of land allocated by the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).
- Admissions are planned to start in 2027.
- The campus will accommodate 7,000 students in two different phases.

This AI Plus Campus is expected to become a model for advanced education in India. The vision behind is to create a hub for future-driven learning.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu supports the project and believes it will boost Amaravati’s image as a smart education city.

- Smart IoT (Internet of Things) infrastructure

AI Plus Campus | Connecting AI with Real-World problems
BITS Vice Chancellor V. Ramagopala Rao explained the aim to create India’s first dedicated AI-focused learning environment.
Plans include teaching core AI concepts and applying them in key sectors such as:
- Agriculture: Improving crop yields with smart data
- Climate: Using AI to analyze and respond to climate patterns
- Healthcare: Assisting doctors with faster and smarter diagnosis
All programs will be designed with help from leading international universities and will follow forward thinking academic policies.

AI Plus Campus | Blending tradition with modernity
The upcoming campus is being developed near the famous Venkateswara Swamy temple as per the request of BITS. The building design will blend ancient temple style architecture with modern construction methods.
This unique design approach brings together heritage and technology.
A new road i.e. Seed Access Road is also being planned to ensure smooth connectivity to the campus. The construction process has begun and the architectural plans are in their final stages.
Project ‘Vistar’
Along with this new campus, BITS Pilani is also working on expanding its existing campuses under a larger plan called Project Vistar. Under this project-
- Rs 1,200 crore will be invested
- Pilani, Hyderabad and Goa campuses will be upgraded
- The total student capacity will increase to 26,000 by 2030-31
These expansions are set to position BITS Pilani as a leading player in tech driven education in India and globally.
