Google a leading technology company is planning to cut down some of its workforce in India. Right now, Google is focusing on becoming faster and more effective.

The main focus is on the engineering teams located in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

A report from Business Standard on 15th-April-2025 indicated that Google might also reassign some employees to different teams that generate higher revenue.

This move could help them better align their resources with teams that are more profitable.

What is happening at Google?

This decision is part of a larger global restructuring plan. Google wants to make its teams work faster and be more efficient. As part of this strategy it has already cut hundreds of jobs in other parts of the company earlier this month.

As per the news published by Information that on 10th-April-2025 Google removed several employees from the Platforms and Devices division where majorly employees were working on –

(i). The Android operating system

(ii). Pixel smartphones

(iii). The Chrome browser

Why is Google doing this? or what is the reason behind?

The main goal is to make the company leaner and better at responding to changes in the tech world. According to a Google spokesperson:

Past significant layoffs

In January 2023 Google laid off 12000 employees which was about 6% of its global staff count.

Recently more job cuts have been reported in Google’s cloud division as well.

These changes are part of a long term plan to focus only on core areas that support the company’s growth and profits.

Though the exact number of jobs being cut in India is not clear. However, reports suggest that many teams across different departments could be affected soon.

The company appears to be reviewing all parts of its business carefully to decide where cuts are needed.

So far, Google has not released any formal update on the exact number of people being laid off in India. But the changes seem to be a part of the company’s bigger restructuring strategy being carried out globally.
