What weapons does Hamas have?
Hamas: Formed by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in 1987, Hamas gained power in Gaza in 2006. It has since focused on building its military strength, receiving support from Hezbollah. By 2008, Hamas had a developed military structure and engaged in its first war against Israel, resulting in significant Palestinian casualties.
Hamas improved its war capabilities by increasing the number and range of rockets, constructing tunnels from Gaza to Israel to use weapons from Egypt, and enhancing the efficiency of its fighters.
Even though Hamas fired 4,300 rockets against Israel in 2021, it was unable to match Israel’s might. Following a horrific assault by Hamas that claimed more than 200 lives, the Israeli military responded with airstrikes in Gaza.
