Senior Health Coverage Approved by the Union Cabinet
Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved free health coverage for all people over 70 years of age and above. Each family is now covered by ₹5 lakh in annual health insurance upon adopting this approach.
Jan Arogya Yojana | About Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs)
- By providing Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs) enable people to get treatment nearer to their homes.
- They are offered free prescribed drugs and diagnostic services, as well as coverage for illnesses that are not transmissible and healthcare for mothers and children.
- The National Health Mission (NHM) provides support.
Jan Arogya Yojana | Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY)
- Offers cashless treatment for specific supplementary and tertiary healthcare problems up to ₹5,00,000 annually to each eligible family.
- The families that participate are based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011 (SECC 2011) employment and poverty criteria for urban and rural regions, accordingly.
- The National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) was the previous name of PM-JAY.
- The Central and State Governments split the execution costs of PM-JAY, which is entirely funded by the Government.
Jan Arogya Yojana | Important Points to Remember
(i). Eligibility: All seniors who are 70 years of age or more will be covered, no matter their economic status or income.
(ii). Top-Up for Active Applicants: Separate from other family members, senior persons who have been covered by AB PM-JAY would receive an extra ₹5 lakh top-up.
(iii). Scheme Choice: AB PM-JAY is a decision for those with private health insurance, CGHS, or ECHS.

Jan Arogya Yojana | PM-JAY Benefit Coverage
In India, benefit covering through various government-funded health insurance programs has traditionally been based on an allowed amount which ranges from INR 30,000 to INR 3,00,000 per family yearly across various states, leading to a disconnected system.
Each qualified family obtains cashless treatment of up to INR5,00,000 per year by PM-JAY for the secondary and tertiary care illnesses stated The following treatment components are protected under the plan along with any related expenses.
- Medical evaluation, care, and advice
- Prior to hospitalization
- Medicines and healthcare products
- Services for both non-intensive and critical care
- Laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Services for medical implantation (when required)
- Benefits of accommodations
- Services related to food
- Treatment-related complications
- Follow-up treatment after hospitalization for up to 15 days
Jan Arogya Yojana | Who Is Not Ayushman Bharat Yojana Covered?
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana does not apply to the following individuals-
- Individuals earning more than ₹10,000 each month
- Those who own agricultural tools and machinery
- People who live in well-constructed homes
- Individuals with a Kisan card
- People who have a car, a three-wheeler, or a two-wheeler
- Government employees
- People who own a fishing boat with a motor
- Employees of non-agricultural government-run businesses
- Individuals whose homes have telephone lines and refrigerators
- Those who own more than five acres of agricultural land
Jan Arogya Yojana | How Can I Sign Up Online for the PMJAY Scheme?
The PMJAY plan is quite easy to register for.
Steps are listed below can be used to register for PMJAY online:
Step-1 Go to the PMJAY scheme’s official government website.
Step-2 Just click on the “Am I Eligible” link, which is located on the right-hand side of the website.
Spet-3 Enter the mobile phone number, and the CAPTCHA code and the OTP.
Step-4 Enter your name, home number, ration card number, mobile device number, and state.
Step-5 Your name will appear in the results if your entire family is covered by the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
Jan Arogya Yojana | Required Artifacts for Ayushman Bharat Yojana Applications
To apply for the PMJAY program or Ayushman Bharat card, applicants must have the following documents-
- Proof of age and identity (Aadhaar or PAN cards)
- Details of contact (email, address, and mobile phone)
- Certificate of caste
- Certificate of income
- Provide evidence confirming to the family’s present status (nuclear or joint).
