Amazon has announced that it will eliminate about 14,000 managerial positions worldwide by early 2025. This elimination is part of a broader strategy to save between $2.1 billion and $3.6 billion annually.
If we calculate, company’s total number of managers will drop from 1,05,770 to 91,936 that is 13% reduction in its global management team.

The job cut trends are part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to streamline its operations and improve overall efficiency. This follows previous layoffs in Amazon’s communications and sustainability departments.
The company is restructuring its teams to become more agile, cutting unnecessary positions, saving cost and majorly focusing on its core business functions.

Amazon’s CEO Mr. Andy Jassy is leading the charge to simplify decision-making and reduce bureaucracy within the company. His plan includes increasing the number of individual contributors compared to managers by at least 15% by the first quarter of this year – 2025. This will help speed up processes, make decision-making quicker then before and improve overall operational efficiency.

Reports from Morgan Stanley estimate that Amazon’s restructuring could eliminate about 13,834 managerial roles by early 2025. This significant reduction in the management workforce is expected to lead to considerable cost savings, helping Amazon stay focused on profitability and operational efficiency.

Amazon Layoffs | New Measures to Improve overall Efficiency
As part of this restructuring plan Amazon is implementing new measures to reduce inefficiencies which includes –
(i). Bureaucracy Tip line: Employees will now be able to report any inefficiencies they spot, helping Amazon streamline operations.
(ii). Increase Direct Reports: Managers are being encouraged to oversee more employees which will help flatten the management structure.
(iii). Limit Senior-Level Hires: Amazon will limit the number of new senior hires means limiting the traditional ways as followed earlier and focusing on reducing management overhead.
(iv). Majorly to Review of Pay Structures: Amazon is reviewing its compensation policies to ensure they align with the company’s focus on profitability.
These new strategies are part of Amazon’s larger goal to make the company more efficient and cost-effective.
